About Symbian Signed

Symbian Signed is the industry-endorsed application signing program that promotes best practice in Symbian OS content and application development. The program tests applications against industry-agreed criteria in support of network operator and mobile manufacturer requirements. Symbian Signed is designed to satisfy mobile developers' needs and ensures a thriving, open market for trusted mobile applications by providing a single, low-cost and unified certification program. The program also delivers developer authentication and anti-tamper security for Symbian OS applications. More than 4500 Symbian native application and content files have reached Symbian Signed status, from over 200 companies.

Contestants who do not receive free testing are strongly encouraged to get their applications tested by going to www.symbiansigned.com.

Competition Application Signing Rules and Guidelines:

  • The first 50 developers to register for the competition will receive 1 free round of Symbian-Signed testing. (1 per company) Applications must be submitted to assigned testing house by April 1st 2006 to be eligible for this benefit. If the application doesn't pass the first time, the developer will be responsible for paying for the second test. To ensure that the application is ready to be sent to the testing house, all developers are advised to test their application with the free "AppTest" tool from the Symbian Signed site. This runs on your own handset and subjects your application to automated testing corresponding to the test criteria on the site. By ensuring you pass these tests before you try and use the Symbian Signed process itself, you will minimize the risk of your application failing and having to be re-tested. Symbian provides other tools at www.symbiansigned.com to help the developer with the signing process.

  • Applications with sophisticated back-end servers do not qualify for free testing. In this case we will take 175 Euros off the price of the testing.

  • In order to submit applications for testing, publishers need to be the holder of an ACS Publisher ID from an approved Certification Authority. To find out how to get the ACS Publish ID please go here: http://www.verisign.com/products-services/security-services/ code-signing/symbian-content-signing/index.html

  • Companies will be notified by the Testing House no later than December 9th 2005 if they are one of the first 50 entrants and are eligible to submit an application for free testing. They will then be given instructions on how to proceed with the testing process.

  • The free test round can only be used for Symbian OS v9 applications.
