Title - Introduction to Forum Nokia

Speaker - Ain Indermitte, Head of Developer Relations, Forum Nokia Americas

Abstract - Nokia's global developer community, Forum Nokia, connects developers to tools, technical information, support and distribution channels they can use to build and market applications around the globe. Forum offices in the U.S., Europe, Japan, China and Singapore, Forum Nokia provides technical and business development support to devlopers and operators to assist them in achieving their goal of successfully launching applications and services to consumers and enterprises. This presentation highlights these services and features select Forum Nokia member companies.

Bio -  Ain Indermitte has than sixteen years of experience in the wireless communications and software development industries and is currently heading developer relations and business development team at Forum Nokia. In this position, Ain is evangelizing Nokia's developer programs and ensuring commercial success of Nokia partners. Joining Nokia in 1997, Ain has been holding various positions within the company, like heading a software development team in S60 platform and building Nokia's broadband media business. Before joining Nokia, Ain Served as an assistant professor of comoputer science. Ain holds a master's degree in computer engineering and a master of business administration degree in international business.

Speaker - Ravi Belwal, Senior Technology Consultant,Forum Nokia

Bio - Ravi Belwal is an experienced mobile software engineering professional. Ravi currently works as a Senior. Technology Expert at Forum Nokia in the Technical Services and Consultancy organization. Ravi has sixteen years of experience in the telecom industry. He has been focusing specifically on mobile and its enabling technologies for the last several years including demonstrated expertise in software development for Symbian OS based devices.

In his current role, Ravi consults for key mobile software developers for operators, tier-1 ISVs, etc. His responsibilities include architectural level design and development guidance, code-level trouble shooting, education, etc

Title - Rapidly Prototyping Mobile Phone Applications with Python

Speaker - Tico Ballagas, User Experience Designer and Researcher

Abstract - This will be an interactive session demonstrating the ease with which python applications can be created and tested.

Bio - Tico Ballagas is a Research Scientist at Nokia Research Center palo Alto in a group focused on future user interfaces. Currently tico is focusing on tools that support rapid prototyping and iterativedesign on the mobile platform. He has a long history of working with mobile devices, originally in 1997 as a member of the development team of Motorola's PageWriter 2000 - the world's first two-way pager, which has been ranked #13 on PC World's "The 50 Greatest Gadgets of the Past 50 Years".

He earned his Doctorate in computer science at RWTH Aachen University in Germany with a focus on designing prototyping and evaluating ubiquitous comoputing applications and interaction techniques. He has developed "Sweep" and "Point & Shoot" phonecam-based interactions for large displays and deployed the REXplorer pervasive game for tourists in Regensburg, Germany. He has also developed the iStuff and iStuff Mobile toolkits to allow designers to rapidly create physical, functional prototypes to explore novel ubiquitous computing applications. He also has degrees from Georgia Tech and Stanford University.

 

Title - Intro to Maemo Linux for Mobile Devices

Speaker - Victor Brilon, Senior Manager, Nokia Nseries

Abstract - Maemo provides an open source development platform for Nokia Internet Tablets and other Linux-based devices. It is built from components widely used in open desktop and mobile systems. Nokia strives to make Maemo open, accessible and useful to all developers wanting to leverage the possibilities of the mobile device and the internet. This session will provide an overview and an introduction to the platform.

 

 

Title - Cross-platform applications with Qt

Speaker - Knut Yrvin, Community Manager

Abstract - Trolltech's Community Manager, Knut Yrvin gives an overview of the Qt Cross-platform application developer framework. He explains the history behind Qt and the symbiotic relationship with Open Source communities. Kunt will point out why Qt is beneficial for mobile, embedded and desktop development.

Bio and title - Knut Yrvin is The Open Source Community Manager at Trolltech, a Nokia company. He inspires developer communities, universities and colleges to use Qt. Knut Started as a technical assistant in Telenor back in 1986. Later he got an engineering degree in electronics and a major in system development. Knut has worked at Norwegian Central Securities Depository and as a consultant for several years. In 2001 he co-founded skolelinux, a project which won the Scandinavian Free Software Award in 2007. Skolelinux is now a part of Debian Edu.

Title - Python Demos

Speaker - Robert Schultheis, Senior Project Manager

Bio - Robert Schultheis is a Senior Technology Expert with Forum Nokia Technical Services and Consultancy in Mountain View California. Robert has been publishing specifications for mobile devices and providing technical support for mobile developers. Robert joined Forum Nokia in 2005 and has 12 years previous experience working with UNIX, Linux, networking and email, at Sun Microsystems.  Robert is a certified Solaris 9 administrator and a Linux user.
